Summary of Feature
Reports containing Edit Subtotals fields can now be grouped by Top Number (Top N) - e.g. Top 10, Top 50 etc. The friendly name fields available to calculate the Top N are taken from the summary fields that are present in the report. For example, in the "Item Report - by Financial Vendor" you can create a Top N based on the Buy, Comm or Sell fields.
Top N reports are usually summary-based reports so you will need to suppress all Edit Subtotal Header and Footer rows except for the Footer for the group that you want to create the Top N for, as illustrated in the example below:
In this example of the Item report:
- We created a Top 20 by Financial Vendor Name report based on the commission amount.
- We suppressed headers and footers for all rows except for the footer for Financial Vendor Name.
- We typed 20 in the Top Number column
- From the Top Number Based On drop down, we selected Pricing Comm Less Split Comm Amount.
This will show the top 20 vendors that have generated the most commission in descending order:
In the above example of the Item report, there is also the option to count the number of items booked as opposed to the total value of a field. By selecting "Branch Code Folder Number Item ID" as your "Top Number Based On" option you can count the number of items booked in the report:
This means the Top N will be based on volume rather than value.
Finally, you can find more information on how to run reports using the Top N feature in the Report Field Name Glossary report.
