When searching for reference data in Dolphin (eg a hotel vendor, a client profile, a board basis type), it's likely you will know the code or the name and populate the search filters accordingly. Often, when a user does not know the code and uses a wild card % entry in their search, huge numbers of results can be returned.
Where more than 100 matching results are found, Dolphin will offer the user to limit their results to the first 100 records. It does this when a result set is large, as per the example below, with over 26,000 results. If a user clicks no (which we do not recommend) to display all results, the system may lock the user for some minutes, while it completes the search and displays the results, which is not particularly helpful.
Suggestions to reduce the search results:
- Enter as many search filters as possible. Eg city codes, as much of the textual name as possible, and this will likely reduce dramatically the number of results returned and speed up search response times.
- Use the % wild card when searching. Using Las Vegas as an example:
Entering Las will return all vendors with a name that starts with Las (eg Las Vegas Hilton)
Entering %Las will return all vendors with a name that contains Las (eg Sheraton Lasunda or Blasting Horne Hotel)
